Pietro Annigoni (1910-1988) He was born in Milan on 7th June 1910. In 1925 he moved to the city of Florence, where he obtained the classical high school. There he attended the Free School of Nude and accessed at the Academy of Fine Arts where he graduated in Painting, Sculpture and Engraving. In 1930 he exhibited for the first time in Florence in collective and two years later he presented his first solo exhibition in Ferroni palace with great success. Between 1945 and 1950 Annigoni realizes some of his key works. In 1949 the Royal Academy exhibited his works in London and at the same time other important exhibitions in Paris, New York, San Francisco follow. His works are exhibited in major museums around the world including the Galleria degli Uffizi and the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Palazzo Pitti in Florence, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Vatican Museums. They posed for him the most famous of the century characters and the portraits of the British royal family are the most famous. Pietro Annigoni died October 28th, 1988 in Florence, where he rests in the "Cimitero Monumentale delle Porte Sante" in San Miniato al Monte. |
